As well as using modern, digital technology, I also also use 120 and 35mm film in my vintage cameras. This gives a unique look and feel to the finished image that can’t easily be replicated in pixels and with Photoshop.
A key facet of these cameras (particularly the Holga) is their unpredictability – lights leaks, soft focus and dark corners are all likely to feature in the processed images. Surprising results can be achieved experimenting with different films and techniques. And whilst you never know the final effect until you get your film back from developing, with practice, these quirks can be controlled to produce images quite unique in the age of digital.
